Lang trial gets pushed back

The trial of former Trezevant High School football coach Lynn Lang, which was set to begin Monday in U.S. District Court, has been rescheduled for Aug. 19 after the defense was granted a continuance last week due to an overload of cases.

Lang is charged with one count of conspiracy, two counts of bribery and six counts of extortion for allegedly trying to sell former Parade All-American Albert Means to colleges during the 1999-2000 school year.

Lang has been accused of selling Means to the University of Alabama for $200,000. Milton Kirk, an assistant coach under Lang at Trezevant, has pleaded guilty to conspiring with Lang to sell Means to the highest bidder and faces sentencing June 28.

Means, a 6-4, 340-pound defensive lineman, played for the University of Alabama for one season before transferring to The University of Memphis in January of 2001. Last season with the Tigers, he was credited with 51 tackles, one sack and one interception.

Lang had been scheduled to appear in the courtroom of U.S. District Judge Bernice Donald.
