Track teams perform well at Tulane meet

The University of Memphis men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Tulane Invitational in New Orleans this weekend, with the men’s team leading the way with five first-place finishes.

Senior sprinter Frank Diadhou had a career day, taking the top spot in both the 100-meter dash (10.73) and the 200-meter dash (21.63). Freshman Ivan Williams was a third-place finisher in the 200 in a time of 21.83.

Senior Dale Norwood placed first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.89, followed by junior Landon Norris’ third-place finish in 15.25.

Senior sprinter/hurdler Kris Harmon also had a first-place finish for the Tigers, winning the 400-meter hurdles event in 54.38. The Tiger 4x400-meter relay team also finished first.

On the women’s side, freshman jumper Ashley Reed won the long jump, stretching 5.54 meters to defeat her closest competitor while sophomore Lisa-Marie Hyman also placed first in the triple jump with a leap of 12.26 meters.

The Lady Tigers also just missed first place in the 4x100-meter relay, turning in a time of 46.06, three hundredths of a second behind event winner Iowa.

Senior Barbara Wine finished second in the shot put with a toss of 13.38 meters and junior Monique Nelson placed sixth with her 12.74-meter toss.

In the sprints, sophomore Keenan Gibson finished third in the 100-meter dash with the time of 12.06 seconds.

In the 1,500-meter run, Wendy Ragle finished third with a time of 4:50.77. The senior also finished third in the 5,000 with a time of 18:55.40.
