Turn out the lights, the party’s over.
The clock has just struck midnight, Cinderella.
U of M fans, please stop pinching yourself — this is not a dream.
The would-be dynasty is over.
The team is breaking up.
The ship is going down.
After Wednesday’s announcement that Scooter McFadgon was transferring, and that Dajuan Wagner was declaring for the draft, I couldn’t do anything but sit back and relax.
It’s not that I WANT them to leave, but every bird must leave its nest some time.
What happens next is the crucial part. Who’ll be leaving next?
Massie? (Actually, that has been reported as well.)
Earl Barron?
Anthony Rice?
What about Burks and O.G.?
And with senior Kelly Wise gone, next year’s line-up is beginning to look a little bleak.
Calipari said a few weeks ago he would support Dajuan in whatever decision he made.
I don’t think he expected others to leave, too, nor did anyone else.
So now that we have a problem, what do we do? We’re paying Calipari a lot of money to coach. So if he’s so good, why be worried?
If he’s a great coach, then he should be able to make a championship team. But it seems as if everyone is thinking the Tigers won’t be worth anything next year.
Maybe we should have paid Wagner $1 million to stick around for a while instead of Cal.
Maybe Root will run the team as the starting point guard next year.
Maybe they’ll suit me up, and I can take a few three-pointers per game.
Maybe, Travis Anglin will letter in not one, but two sports, and join the basketball team after having pulled a double role on the football squad, switching from the quarterback to the wide receiver position.
Maybe Lennox Lewis will be defeated by Mike Tyson, and stay on in Memphis as the center for the Tigers, replacing Kelly Wise.
Maybe, we will all graduate in four years with no loans, no Fs, no missed classes, and a 100 percent graduation rate for athletes as well.
Maybe pigs will carry me to a land far, far away, where I will be the ruler of all which consists of pork, and monopolize the food industry.
Or, maybe I have gone way out of league and overboard in my far-fetched ideas. I should just stop and settle down for a moment, regroup my thoughts and take it one idea at a time.
Sounds like a good idea.
Maybe all the Memphis fans should do the same thing. Let’s see how it all plays out. There’s plenty of time between now and the basketball season.
One thing is for sure, Memphis will have the best recruiting class in the nation next year — in the NBA.
