Police Beat 4/18/02

Thursday, April 4, 3 p.m.

A student reported to officers that her cell phone was taken from her purse while she was attending her class.

The victim said she left her phone unattended during class between 11:50 and 12:15 p.m.

When she returned, she noticed the phone was missing.

The victim said nothing else was taken.

Total estimated loss is $100.

Monday, April 8, 11:15 a.m.

A student parked in the Southern parking lot called University of Memphis officers after he noticed his car window had been busted out. The victim stated to officers that he parked his vehicle in the parking lot on April 3 at approximately 1:30 p.m. When he returned to his vehicle on April 8.

He noticed the rear passenger window was busted out and several items missing. Total estimated loss is $1,800.

Monday, April 8, 12:05 p.m.

A student who was video taping a step show outside the Alumni Mall called officers after she realized that her purse was missing.

The student told officers that while she was taping the show, she placed her purse inside her camcorder bag and placed it between her feet.

Sometime between 1 p.m. and 1:15 p.m., the student said her purse was taken. Nothing else inside the bag was taken. Total estimated loss is $110.

Monday, April 8, 8 p.m.

A disturbance call was placed after two roommates at the Tiger Paw Apartments began arguing and each making violent threats towards the other.

The two roommates stated that over the past two months, the two had not gotten along.

Later that day, the two began to argue over the cleanliness of their apartment and one roommate threatened the other with a kitchen pan.

The resident advisor confronted the two arguing roommates and cleared the scene before officers could arrive.

The officer tried to contact the RA but was unsuccessful. The victim stated the RA would file an incident report, but would also notify Public Safety.

Monday, April 8, 9 p.m.

Two victims called police services after they noticed their parking tags were missing from their vehicles.

The victims said they parked their cars next to each other earlier that day and both tags were taken.

One of the victims also reported to officers that his wallet, which was located on the dashboard, was missing.

The victim said his driver’s side window was malfunctioning and would not roll up.
