Tuesday, April 2, 7:15 p.m.
A student called police services after he noticed his unattended bookbag was missing from the Theater and Communication building. The victim said he entered the building around 2 p.m. and placed his bag in the green room, then left the room. Approximately four hours later, the victim came back to check on his bag. When he returned, his bag was missing. Total estimated loss is $150.
Tuesday, April 2, 8 p.m.
A female student living in Richardson Towers North called U of M police services after complaining that someone broke into her room while she was gone and smoked in her room. The U of M officers followed the complaint and observed an empty cigar wrapper and tobacco in the sink along with jewelry on the sink. That same day, the dormitory had been cleared for a fire alarm and the officers stayed in the room to see if anyone would come back. After five minutes, officers heard several individuals enter the adjoining room. As officers were waiting, one suspect entered the victim’s room from the shared bedroom between the two suites. The officers then arrested the victim along with three other suspects. They were issued misdemeanor citations.
Thursday, April 4, 10 p.m.
An officer responded to a call after someone advised police services that a man was unconscious in the Southern Avenue parking lot. While approaching the passed-out victim, the officer could smell a strong odor of intoxicant. Upon reviving the victim, the officer noticed he had watery eyes and could not stand on his own. The defendant was taken into custody for his own safety and transported to The Med.
Saturday, April 6, 4 p.m.
U of M police services were dispatched to the Tiger Paw apartments after a student reported a burglary call. The victim said she left her apartment at approximately 3:30 p.m. and returned within 30 minutes, only to find her bedroom door had been kicked in. It is unknown if anything was taken from the victim’s room. Total estimated damage to the victim’s apartment is $500.
Saturday, April 6, 8 p.m.
Several concerned students flagged down U of M officers, reporting seeing several juveniles on bikes breaking vehicle windows in the Southern Parking lot. Shortly after reporting the vandalism call to officers, the suspects were soon apprehended. The four captured suspects were transported downtown to the Memphis Police Department Juvenile Court division.
