Nominations are currently being accepted for the Distinguished Administrator of the Year Award at The University of Memphis. The recipient will receive $1,000 and a plaque commemorating the award.
The department of human resources’ program service specialist Trina Washington will accept the nominations in room 108 of Jones Hall until April 15, 2002.
“The nominations say a lot about the character of the person and how they value their work and their employees,” Washington said.
The criteria for the award include holding a director’s or administrator’s position and a minimum of two years service with The U of M. Faculty are excluded from this award.
Previous recipients of the Distinguished Administrator of the Year Award include Dr. John Schifani of the college of education in 2000-2001, Daniel Armitage of residence life in 1999-2000 and Susan Mangus-Jackson, director of developmental studies in 1998-1999.
A committee including some of the former recipients has been formed this year to review the nominations and make a recommendation.
The nominee must exhibit recognition and dedication to achieving the mission of the universtiy and their operating department. They must be a leader who motivates others to pursue and demonstrate excellence and they must be an innovator who consistently seeks better ways to accomplish tasks and solve problems.
“The recipient of the award is someone who goes beyond the call of duty in their job and who really deserves it,” Washington said.
Nominations must include a letter of supporting documentation and the nomination form to be accepted.
The Distinguished Administrator of the Year Award will be presented at a ceremony in June, among other U of M staff awards including the Distinguished Employee, Distinguished Clerical Support Employee and Distinguished Administrative Professional Employee. The recipients will not be announced until the ceremony in June.
