Monday, March 18, 9:15 p.m.
University of Memphis officers responded to a simple assault call at Richardson Towers North. The complainant stated to officers that the two former friends had been arguing and the suspect came to the victim’s dorm room to pick up her jacket. As the suspect was leaving, the victim said she would walk the suspect to her car. Once outside, the complainant stated that the suspect became verbally abusive when the victim tried to walk away. The victim then told police that the suspect grabbed her wrist but the victim kicked the suspect in the leg while trying to walk away. The suspect grabbed the victim by the throat but the victim fought her way free and then shoved the suspect to the ground. A friend of the victim eventually broke up the fight but the two began to fight again. No arrest has been made and the suspect will be placed on a trespass status.
Wednesday, March 20, 9:35 a.m.
A U of M employee reported to police that several items had been stolen from cubicles in room 300 of the Engineering Building. The employee stated that the numbers of two U of M Purchasing cards issued to the Groundwater Institute had been stolen and used. The victim said that the numbers were most likely obtained from invoices or papers located on another employee’s desk. The employee also believes the thefts from the building may be related to theft reports from the previous day. Total estimated loss is $220.
Wednesday, March 20, 12:40 p.m.
A student living in the South Hall dormitory reported to officers that his laptop computer was taken from his room. The victim stated that he and his roommate left their room at approximately 10:20 a.m. and locked their hallway door but left their bathroom door unlocked. Upon returning to their door at approximately 12 p.m., the victim found the hallway door unlocked and their bathroom door secure. When checking his room for any missing items, only his laptop computer was taken from an unlocked drawer. The victim told officers that the computer was on loan from the Scholarship Office. U of M employees advised that the laptop was donated to The University and is unable to located a serial number or cost at this time.
Friday, March 22, midnight
While on patrol, officers witnessed a male stumbling east bound on Watagua and then headed south bound on Patterson. The suspect then began to run and officers followed and asked the suspect to stop. The individual continued to walk forward before finally stopping. The officers approached the stumbling victim and noticed a strong odor of intoxicant. The suspect had bloodshot eyes and had trouble maintaining his balance. The subject became threatening towards the officers and was placed under arrest. The suspect was then transported to the Med where she registered 0.178 on the blood alcohol content test.
Monday, March 25, 1:41 a.m.
Two U of M officers responded to a disturbance call at Richardson Towers North. A resident adviser told officers that two African-American males were in the dormitory lobby with alcoholic beverages. The resident adviser told the two to leave but the two began yelling and cursing at her. The resident adviser then told them she was calling the police and they ran out of the building. When officers arrived, they attempted to chase down the two suspects but were unable to catch them. When the officers returned to the scene to speak with witnesses, the officers observed the two individuals walking back towards the dormitory. The officers stopped the two suspects, placed them under arrest and transported them to 201 Poplar.
