Men's tennis team beats C-USA rival

The men’s tennis team contiuned its red-hot play of late, knocking off No. 75 Charlotte, 5-2, Thursday afternoon in North Carolina for its fifth straight victory.

Memphis (9-4), ranked No. 59 this week by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, took four of six singles matches and two of the three doubles matches to get the victory.

Conference USA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Alex Bucewicz moved to 10-3 on the season after defeating Charlotte’s Jonathan McGovern, 6-2, 6-3. Seniors Michael Chamberlain (9-3) and Richard Magney (5-6) as well as sophomore Lee Taylor Walker (5-5) also scored victories for the Tigers, who travel to Davidson, N.C., today for their third match in as many days.

In doubles Thursday, Joe Schmulian and Chamberlain moved to 7-1 on the season while Bucewicz and Michael LaHaie improved to 8-2.
