The University of Memphis Tigers will get a chance to return to Madison Square Garden in New York for the second straight year when they face Tennessee Tech Saturday at The Pyramid at noon in the quaterfinal round of the National Invitation Tournament.
Last season, Memphis (24-9) dropped its semifinal game against eventual champion Tulsa before winning the consolation game against Detroit for a third-place finish.
This season, head coach John Calipari and his Tigers are looking to handle some unfinished business.
Tennessee Tech comes into Saturday’s game at 27-7 after advancing past Yale in the second round of the tournament Tuesday.
Sophomore guard Cameron Crisp led the Golden Eagles with a career-high 25 points and was joined by two other Tech players with double-digit scoring games. Crisp is averaging 12.3 points and four assists per game.
Junior Damien Kinloch leads the Golden Eagles in scoring, averaging 16 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
Memphis and Tennessee Tech have met 46 times since 1931, with the Tigers leading the all-time series 24-22.
The last time the two met, Memphis crushed Tech 101-71 during the 1992-93 season.
