Website of the Week 2/13/02

A thousand times you’ve told your significant other how much you love them.

However, you’ve never taken a moment to address the annoying issue of his stinky feet or her bad breath.

With an irreverent approach to the foibles of love, Rhyme Zone’s Valentine’s Day Slam gives bitter and jaded poets a chance to sound off.

Visitors to the site can vote on about 600 couplets submitted this year. They can also read 300 of the best submissions from last year’s competition.

Among the current leaders in this year’s competition are these fine gems:

I thought that I could love no other/Until, that is, I met your brother.

... and ...

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways/How do I hate thee? Well that could take days.

Certainly, there’s nothing you’ll find on a sappy card at your local Hallmark — but that’s part of the Slam’s appeal.

While today marked the deadline for 2002 entries, it’s never too early to gear up for next year’s V-Day. Therefore, the Valentine’s Day Slam has inspired me to write a few sentiments of my own.

So this is for my fiance, Paul, who spends every free moment on his computer playing video games:

You gave me a diamond ring, one that I like/But if you don’t sign off now, I’LL Counterstrike!
