Police Beat 2/08/02

Tuesday, Jan. 29, 9:25 a.m.

A student was attending her computer class at 8 a.m. and after her class ended, she noticed that her purse was missing. The victim said she placed her purse and book bag under the desk where she worked and said she did not see anyone walk out with her purse. Shortly after reporting the incident, she called the bank to cancel her check card. Total estimated loss is $320.

Thurs., Jan. 31, 10:30 a.m.

A student eating at the Tiger Den reported to officers that his backpack and books were stolen from his table while he left for the restroom. The victim said he left his table and went to the restroom and was gone for approximately two minutes. Upon returning to his table, that is when he noticed his items missing. The victim then checked with the cafeteria office to see if the items had been turned in, but they had not. No suspect information is available at this time. Total estimated loss is $209.

Thurs., Jan. 31, 9:45 a.m.

An officer responded call reporting theft from two parking meters at the Central Parking lot. The officer observed the two parking meters’ doors were open and the money inside missing. The coin containers are estimated to be worth $14.50 each. The estimated amount of money taken from both meters was $10.

Friday, Feb. 1, 1:32 a.m.

An officer responded to a simple assault call after a victim said he had just left a party and his ex-girlfriend had assaulted him. The victim said he left the party and his ex-girlfriend confronted him and started an argument. The victim said he continued to walk away, but she continued to follow him. The argument continued, according to the victim, and the suspect grabbed his genitalia forcefully. The victim then said he slapped her hand away and left.

The officer then spotted the female suspect return to her dormitory but she denied assaulting the victim. The officer continued to question the suspect and noticed that her right thumb was swollen. Five minutes later, the suspect claimed while she did not touch the victim, her ex-boyfriend shoved her to the ground, injuring her hand and hip. The female suspect said she wished to prosecute for this incident and a previous incident that occurred on 1/20/02.

Friday, Feb. 1, 11:35 p.m.

A resident at South Hall reported to officers that someone stole money and his phone from his dorm room. The victim said he left his room for approximately five minutes to visit his resident advisor a few doors down the hall. He also stated that he left his door open and upon returning to his room noticed that the money had been stolen from his wallet. His phone was also stolen, but the victim said the phone did not work. The top drawer of his roommate’s desk was open as well, but he did not know if anything was missing. Total estimated loss is $87.
