The University of Memphis men’s tennis team returned to the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings this week after wins over Southern Miss and then 61st-ranked Louisville over the weekend.
The Tigers (4-3) began the year ranked 75th in the preseason poll and had moved up to 72nd before losing to East Tennessee State Feb. 2 and dropping out of the poll.
But a 5-2 win over Southern Miss Friday and a 4-1 victory over Louisville Saturday during Conference USA Weekend in Louisville has given Memphis new life. Louisville, on the other hand, dropped from the 61st spot to 69th this week.
The Tigers, led by senior Michael Chamberlain’s 5-1 overall record in singles matches, will get a chance to move up in the poll this weekend when they face 21st-ranked Middle Tennessee State Saturday at 2 p.m. in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Memphis then heads to the three-day HEB Invitational, which takes place in Corpus Christi, Texas, March 8-10.
The Tigers are one of six Conference USA teams in the rankings this week. The others include TCU (31), Tulane (34), South Florida (T35), UNC-Charlotte (64), and Louisville (69).
