Don't criticize Greek life if you've never lived it

Dear Editor:

I am writing in response to the cartoon published in the Wednesday, Feb. 20 edition of The Daily Helmsman.

The cartoon was of sorority girls talking about a supposed fraternity party; two other girls were talking of how they felt ashamed of their gender because of the way the sorority girls were speaking.

I felt this cartoon was very degrading towards sorority women and fraternity men. I do understand, however, it was meant to be in good humor, yet I thought that a newspaper which is read at a university where Greek life is predominant would have better judgment.

As a Phi Mu, I felt personally effected because of the way the two sorority girls were speaking towards each other as well as by the way the two other girls responded.

I know Greek life is not for everyone, but I also do not think the cartoon was necessary; it was both degrading and unappreciated.

I realize there are typical Greek stereotypes, yet I also know that one should not criticize what they have not experienced.
