Winning tickets is the best way to see Superbowl

Football fans across the nation will come together Sunday to watch the Super Bowl, which will air on Fox. However, one University of Memphis student won’t have to worry about finding a Super Bowl party to attend. She’ll be at the game.

Dekisha Wilson, 22, a graduate student in sports and leisure commerce, has won tickets to the Super Bowl, and no, guys, the tickets are not for sale.

Wilson entered the contest last semester when searching the web for a research project.

“I was taking a sports marketing class last semester and we had to do a sports sponsorship proposal. Each member of the class had a fantasy football team, and we had to find a company to sponsor our team. I looked to the real sponsors of the NFL, and I must have filled out something on the Motorola Website. They contacted me about three weeks ago,” Wilson said.

Wilson is the National Grand Prize winner of the Motorola all-inclusive giveaway, which includes round trip airfare for Wilson and a guest to New Orleans, hotel accommodations and even food.

“I get to go to one Motorola evening party, the NFL Experience and a post-Super Bowl party. I also get to go to the NFL tailgate party before the game,” Wilson said. What is she wearing to all these high profile parties? “I don’t even know yet,” laughed Wilson.

So who is the lucky guest who gets to accompany Wilson to the Super Bowl? Don’t bother sending her your applications, boys. She’s taking her best friend, Melinda Callahan, 28, also a University of Memphis student.

Wilson is certainly a deserving recipient of the prize, considering her history in athletics.

“I love football,” Wilson said. “I was a student athletics trainer as an undergraduate for the U of M football team.”

Tickets for the Super Bowl are a hot commodity. According to the Web site www.superbowlticketscenter.com, ticket prices range from $925 to $6,075. Another Web site, www.allsuperbowltickets.com, lists prices starting at $799 and up to $3,999, depending on the seats. However, Wilson hasn’t received many offers for her trip. “Not a whole lot of people know about it,” Wilson said. “The tickets are non-transferable, so I couldn’t sell them if I wanted to. They haven’t told me what seats I have.”

The Patriots and the Rams take the field Sunday to compete in the 36th Super Bowl. Who does Wilson want to win?

“I don’t know!! Do I have to pick one? My favorite team is the Tennessee Titans.”

Wilson leaves Thursday, Jan. 31, and will return Monday, Feb. 4. She’ll have to miss class for her Super Bowl excursion, but the experience is sure to be well worth it.
