This semester, we are gonna do things a little differently here in the Arts and Entertainment section. The Daily Helmsman received a facelift so why shouldn’t the A&E section receive one as well?
I know what you are thinking right now. Questions such as “What’s with Matt Woo the DVD Guru?” “Who is this guy?” or “What’s up with that creepy looking picture?” are probably going through heads right now.
To sum it up as quickly as possible, first, I didn’t come up with the name “DVD Guru.” My editors thought it sounded cool, and it does rhyme with my last name. Get it...Woo...Guru...uh yeah.
Secondly, I know the picture of me looks like I’m a little liquored up, but you wouldn’t look too great if you were forced to lie on the floor and look into the camera while someone is hounding you to smile.
Anyway, enough of me.
So, for my section this semester, I get to choose one DVD everyone should see, and this week I chose the newly released movie “The Fast and the Furious.”
Okay, I know the movie had pretty lame acting and the plot was...for lack of a better word: stupid. But you know what, as bad as this movie really was, it was a great DVD.
Visually, the movie looks as good as any other DVD out there with a crisp clear picture of cars flying by the screen at a over 100 miles per hour and bright colorful flames shooting out the backs of car’s mufflers.
Soundwise, this is where this DVD stands out from the rest of the pack. Roaring engines, gun fire and explosions makes this movie perfect for showing off your brand new surround sound system you just received for Christmas.
This DVD is packed with bonus material. With over six hours of bonus materials including deleted scenes, a commentary by movie director Rob Cohen and music videos featuring Ja Rule; it should keep most viewers busy for a while.
Other DVD goodies include a documentary of the making of the film, a visual effects montage and theatrical trailers.
Sure it may not be a great movie, but again it was a great DVD. Despite being a less than stellar movie, this DVD is packed with so much bonus material, it will please even the most hard-core DVD enthusiasts.
