The Lady Tigers face a tough conference road trip this weekend, starting with a matchup against senior forward Lenae Williams and the DePaul Blue Demons in Chicago tonight at 7.
DePaul (10-6, 3-0 in Conference USA), which is 4-2 at home this season, has won five of the last seven games against Memphis (8-8, 2-1 in C-USA) in Chicago and boasts one of C-USA’s top scorers in Williams. The senior, who finished third in scoring in C-USA last season, is averaging a lofty 22.6 points per game and has as many three-pointers as all of DePaul’s opponents combined.
Last season, though, Williams scored just nine points against the Lady Tigers in a 70-52 Memphis win. She’ll have revenge on her mind tonight.
Memphis, which is 3-4 on the road this season, has been anchored lately by senior forward/center Melissa Abraham. Abraham has averaged 13.3 points and 11.8 rebounds per game over Memphis’ last four contests while recording a double-double in four of her last seven games.
On Sunday, Memphis will travel to Milwaukee, Wis., to face Marquette (9-7, 2-1) in an afternoon matinee.
The Golden Eagles are coming off back-to-back road wins after holding South Florida and Alabama-Birmingham to a combined 96 points in two games. Marquette, which is led by senior forward Rachel Klug’s 13.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, held UAB to just 22.6 percent shooting in its 65-42 win Monday.
Memphis returns home to play St. Louis next Sunday.
