I am writing to you regarding Mr. Matthews' “Mr. Amore's Love Corner” that was in (Wednesday’s) edition of the Daily Helmsman.
I found the article appalling and offensive. I am surprised and dismayed that a student newspaper would publish such a sexist and misogynistic article.
Statements like “Women should not come outside during a certain time of the month. It's for the betterment of society” is eerily reminiscent of — (what's that group called...) — the Taliban! So this article was supposedly written in good humor?
I do not find remarks such as "Take the can of Cycle-Be-Gone, turn it sideways, stick it up her anything-but-candy ass and Kick her 2 da' curb" humorous.
The degradation of women is a pervasive issue that women (and men alike) have worked to ameliorate in the past few decades. The fact that this article was published in a University newspaper is a sad reminder of how far we have to go.
