Lady Tiger soccer loses to crosstown rival CBU

The University of Memphis women’s soccer team found out just how hard it is to stop Christian Brothers University junior forward Missy Gregg Wednesday night.

Gregg, who’s been named the Gulf South Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week three of the last four weeks, scored twice and had an assist Wednesday as the undefeated Buccaneers (6-0) held on to beat the Tigers, 3-2, at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.

The Tigers, who dropped to 3-7-1 overall, got a first-half goal from freshman Annika Moller on an assist from Becca Amrozowicz to open the scoring before Gregg answered with two goals in the 34th and 39th minutes to make the score 2-1 before intermission.

CBU outshot Memphis 9-4 during the first half, and 17-8 for the game.

Gregg, whose team is currently ranked No. 4 in the NSCAA/adidas Division II poll, has outscored The U of M, 18-14, this season by herself.

CBU junior forward Margaret Saurin made the score 3-1 at the 65:23 mark.

With less than two minutes to play, though, the Tigers pulled to within 3-2 on freshman midfielder Mary Shelton’s goal.

But with just 40 seconds to play, Tiger freshman Amy Ciezki‘s desperation shot sailed just over the crossbar, icing the win for CBU.
