Two award-winning poets will present their prose at the River City Writers Series tonight at 7 p.m. in the Johnson Hall Auditorium.
Mary Leader and Shara McCallum have been recognized nationally for their literary gifts. Both teach at The University of Memphis.
Leader, a former assistant attorney general of Oklahoma won the National Poetry Series for her first work, “The Red Signature.” Leader’s work has appeared in “The Quarterly,” “Denver Quarterly” and “Virginia Quarterly Review.” Leader is an assistant professor of English.
McCallum, also an assistant professor of English won the Academy of American Poets Prize as a graduate student. McCallum’s first collection of poems, “The Water Between Us,” won the Agnes Lynch Starrett Poetry Prize. Her work has appeared in numerous anthologies and journals such as “Beyond the Frontier: Contemporary African-American Poetry and Verse.”
