A male student reported that he had been the victim of a pickpocket. The victim went to the University Center game room, and as he was leaving, he noticed that his wallet was missing. Estimated loss is $3,000. There are no suspects at this time.
Friday, Aug. 31
5:35 p.m.
An officer responded to a vandalism call at the Tiger Paw apartments. A complainant advised that he observed a vehicle try to follow another vehicle through the apartment gate. The gate closed, striking the trunk lid of the following vehicle, which caused the arm of the gate to break. The driver of the following vehicle was not a student at The University or a resident of the state. A misdemeanor citation was issued.
Monday, Sept. 3
1:55 p.m.
Officers responded to a call reporting two thefts of motor vehicle parts and accessories. The victims advised that their vehicles had been broken into. The first victim said that her right front window was broken out and an attempt was made to steal her CD player. The other victim stated that the right rear quarter glass was broken out, his CD player stolen and his CD case with 40 CDs stolen. He said the doors were locked and the windows were rolled up when he left the vehicle.
Tuesday, Sept. 4
12:11 p.m.
An officer responded to a vandalism call at the south campus athletic facility lot. The victim said he had parked his 2001 Ford Explorer in the lot two days before, and upon his return he noticed that three of the tires had been slashed. While on the scene, another student told police that he had parked his vehicle at the same time and noticed all four tires on his 2000 GMC Sierra had been slashed. Estimated loss is $2,400.
Tuesday, Sept. 4
7:58 p.m.
A complainant reported harassment by his ex-girlfriend. The victim said the suspect is a student and has been leaving notes on his vehicle. The suspect has also been calling the victim’s dorm room and family at all hours of the night.
Wednesday Sept. 5
5:09 a.m.
An officer observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Patterson at a high rate of speed. The vehicle ran the stop sign at Patterson and Walker, stopped at the second stop sign in the turning lane and then went straight, driving into the oncoming traffic lanes. The vehicle finally stopped, but the driver had no ID.
An empty beer can was observed on the passenger floorboard. The officer suspected the driver of driving under the influence. When the driver was asked to step out of the vehicle, he opened the door and almost fell to the ground. The driver was asked to move to the rear of the car and almost fell again. He was given a field sobriety test, which he failed. The suspect was taken in for DUI, and also tested positive for marijuana. It was discovered that the suspect had three outstanding warrants in Shelby County.
