Thursday, Sept. 6

2:19 p.m.

Three officers were dispatched to the Tiger Paw apartments on an assault call. A female stated she and a male suspect had been arguing while she was on the phone with the suspect’s mother. The female told officers the suspect grabbed the phone from her hand and broke her fingernail off. The suspect then hung the phone up, pushed the female against the wall and ripped her earrings out of her ears. The victim also had a small abrasion on her neck. The suspect also threatened to pay someone $100 to beat up the victim. The suspect was placed in custody.

Friday, Sept. 7

1:52 a.m.

An officer responded to Smith Hall on a harassment call. Upon arrival, the officer met with a female who stated the incident was started by the defendant, who at the time was working at the front desk of Smith Hall. The female stated that she asked the defendant if her boyfriend had come in yet and the defendant asked her if her boyfriend had been drinking something. She said he was drinking a 7-Up. The defendant then told her that her boyfriend was cute and that he was gay. She stated that her boyfriend was not gay. The female said that after her boyfriend came out of the bathroom, she signed him in and they went to her room. Approximately an hour later, they went to a fraternity house. The female returned to her room later and received a call from an unknown person. The unknown person stated that she needed to come and get her “drunk gay boyfriend” off of his friend at the fraternity house. The female’s roommate stated that when the person called back, she answered the phone and the person stated to her that he was going to kill her or have her killed. A witness, another desk worker who was also at the desk in Smith Hall, stated that he did hear the defendant make sexual remarks about the female’s boyfriend.

Saturday, Sept. 8

2:03 a.m.

An officer responded to a fight call at Rawls Hall. As the officer was arriving, he was informed by radio that one of the parties involved was leaving in a SUV. The officer observed a SUV occupied by two males leaving the area at Desoto and Patterson and blocked it in. One of the involved parties was in the vehicle. The male stated that he and his girlfriend had gotten into a verbal altercation and that she had attacked him, striking him on the head and shoulders. He also stated that he did not hit her but just pushed her away and left. The officer was not able to find the female involved in the incident, but did find one witness who confirmed most of the story. The witness did state that at one point the male involved grabbed the female by the neck and pushed her into a window in Rawls Hall. The witness also stated that the female had told her that she was not a University of Memphis student and was at Rawls Hall to visit friends. The officer talked to the resident adviser on duty who stated she saw the female back into the window and heard shouting and cursing before calling the police.

Saturday, Sept. 8

4:15 p.m.

An officer responded to a call regarding the front section of a USA Today newspaper stand. Upon arriving at Hayden Hall, the officer noticed that the front section of a newspaper machine was laying on top of a garbage can. Officers searched the area and found no newspaper stand. After a campus search was completed, officers confirmed that the faceplate belonged on a USA Today newspaper stand on the east side of Rawls Hall, near the building’s entrance.

Saturday, Sept. 8

8:58 p.m.

Officers responded to Robison Hall on a harassment call. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the victim, who said she was walking with friends on the sidewalk in front of Robison Hall when she saw a male suspect approaching her. The victim stated that she tried to ignore him and walk to her car, but the suspect ran past her and stood between her and the car door, asking what she was doing there. The suspect slapped her hand and pushed her when she reached for the car door handle. The victim finally left the area in her vehicle with the suspect following her, driving recklessly before pulling up next to her screaming obscenities and making threats on her life. The victim told officers that she was in fear for her life.
