Police Beat 9/20/01

Wednesday, Sept. 12

1:40 p.m.

An officer responded to a vandalism call at Southern and Echles. The victim told an officer that someone had apparently slashed the right front tire of her vehicle. The victim stated that the vehicle is registered to her brother, but is driven and maintained by her. The victim also mentioned that her right front tire was slashed a week ago as well. There are no suspects at this time.

Saturday, Sept. 15

11 a.m.

Officers responded to a call in the Panhellenic building regarding the theft of a laptop computer. The complainant told officers that the computer was last seen in the recruitment headquarters in the building at 2:45 a.m., and when the complainant returned at 6 a.m. the computer was gone. The computer was locked in a cubby in an open room. There are no suspects at this time. Estimated loss is $1, 200.

Sunday, Sept. 16

8:30 p.m.

Officers responded to a theft from motor vehicle call. The victim parked her car in the central lot on Zach Curlin. When she returned she found that her vehicle had been broken into. Additional vehicles were broken into in the Central, Zach Curlin and Johnson Hall parking lots. Two CD players/changers, 20 CDs and a pair of jumper cables were stolen. A passenger side window of one vehicle was also broken out. Estimated loss is $1,225.

Sunday, Sept. 16

10:48 p.m.

While on routine patrol, an officer was flagged down by a victim in the Zach Curlin parking lot who stated that his vehicle had been broken into. The victim’s passenger side window was broken out and his back seat was pried back. The car stereo, speaker and amplifier were stolen. Estimated loss is $1,000.

Monday, Sept. 17

2:12 a.m.

An officer responded to a call at Richardson Towers. Upon arrival, a resident told the officer that a vending machine in the lobby had been damaged and some of the candy appeared to be missing. The front glass of the machine had been broken, but none of the money had been stolen. Officers bagged the remaining candy and transported it to the public safety facility. The resident mentioned to officers that he saw a male suspect eating candy on the east side of the dorm. The complainant began to look inside the lobby and by then the suspect had ran around to the south side of the building.
