Thursday, July 12

12:53 a.m.

University officers responded to a 911 distress call at a Central Avenue apartment complex regarding domestic abuse. Upon arrival, a female occupant of the apartment alleged that moments earlier her boyfriend had thrown her against a wall, injuring her left ankle and a finger on her left hand.

In addition, the female told officers her boyfriend pulled three phone cords from the apartment’s walls as she attempted to call police before smashing a set of dishes.

According to the police report, the altercation stemmed from botched dinner plans between the two.

A witness in the adjoining apartment confirmed the victim’s statements and advised officers that the boyfriend had been violent with the victim on several occasions in the past. The alleged victim advised officers that she did not wish to prosecute or obtain a restraining order against the man.

Thursday, July 12

11:09 a.m.

Officers responded to a theft call at the Smith Chemistry Building. Upon arrival, the reporting person advised officers that between June 28 and July 2, someone had entered a computer lab in the building and stolen a laptop computer.

Officers checked the room and found no signs of forced entry. The reporting person told officers that she delayed in reporting the theft because she wanted to check with lab assistants to determine if someone had taken the computer home.

Officers noted in the report that most professors and some U of M staff have key access to the lab area. There are no suspects at this time.

Monday, July 23

8:05 a.m.

Officers recieved a vandalism call at the Brister Library. Upon arrival, the complaintant told officers that someone had entered a window on the northwest side of the building by climbing up on a barrel.

The complaintant told officers that a door, which had been locked, was unlocked when he arrived. Upon further investigation, officers found that someone had apparently spread multi-colored ink cartridges in one of the building’s rooms. In addition, someone had attempted to gain entry to other rooms by prying on the door jams, but was denied access.

There are no suspects at this time.
