Sarah Wynn, former University of Memphis secretary for the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, will hold a book signing to commemorate the publication of her new book, “The Emergence of the Music Critic in the Late Eighteenth Century London: Composers, Performers, Reporters.”
Wynn said the idea for her book stemmed from a term paper she did for The U of M music department. In her paper, she concentrated on a similar subject.
“I was interested in the day-to-day music activities in London at that particular time,” Wynn said. “I think it is fun to go back and read what was written 200 years ago and know what was going on.”
Wynn, a U of M graduate who earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music, said she was excited to write the book. Wynn said her late husband, Larry, was an English professor at The U of M and inspired her to write.
“I enjoyed writing a lot,” Wynn said. “I grew up in an atmosphere of reading what was written.”
Wynn and her husband started a literature collection because he was a scholar at heart, she said.
“Larry was endued with education and his father was a professor, also,” Wynn said.
“There are a lot of books in our literature collection. We collected books because of need and pleasure.”
The book signing, hosted by The U of M Friends of the Library, will take place Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at The U of M Alumni Center. Wynn’s book can be purchased at the reception. Call 678-2586 for reservations.
