The Each One Reach Three Mentoring Family will sponsor The Ninth Annual Buddy Buddy Olympics Saturday on The University of Memphis campus.
The Buddy Buddy Olympics, a program that encourages academic and athletic excellence, will start at 8 a.m. and last until 4:30 p.m. The day will begin with math and language academic games and end with athletic skill games, according to Betina Kurtz, Buddy Buddy Olympics chair.
"I hope that the children attending will be excited," Kurtz said. "I want them to come back next year and bring their friends."
Approximately 200 kids will attend the Olympics this year, Kurtz said.
EORT Mentoring Family provides mentoring and bonding to Memphis City and Shelby County Schools. Third, fourth-, and fifth-grade students from Orange Mound and Frayser area schools will attend. Teachers and parents from the area schools have also been invited to attend.
EORT sponsors tutoring sessions, ACT workshops and does service projects.
The Buddy Buddy Olympics are co-sponsored by The University's NAACP Chapter, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and Project UNITE.
Interested volunteers should contact Kurtz, at 337-8799 or bkurtz@memphis.edu. Volunteers can also show up on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. in the Manning Hall auditorium.
