The winner of the Tiger Dining "You Pick the Menu" weekly contest is staff member Joyce Johnson.
"I am very excited," Johnson said. "I received a voice mail that I had won and I thought I won a car at first."
Johnson, who works in the provost's office, said she was happy that her menu was selected.
"I think the menu contest is a wonderful idea," Johnson said. "I hope the Tiger Den continues this contest and other students submit menus."
Tiger Den location manager Mike Miller said he is also excited about the contest.
"I am very excited -- Ms. Johnson's menu will be featured Thursday," Miller said "The menu includes baked chicken, catfish nuggets, baked ziti (a form of pasta), oven-roasted potatoes, buttered cabbage, white beans and for dessert -- blackberry cobbler."
Miller said the dishes will be available in the Tiger Den at the "Southern Cafe."
The "You Pick the Menu" contest started this week with the introduction of the menu in Tuesday's edition of The Daily Helmsman.
Miller said he is hoping more students will want to take part in the contest.
"We will continue to try different things and offer more choices in food selection," Miller said. "The menu form is posted in both the Tiger Den and the Marketplace at the UC."
Tiger Dining director Chuck Wigington said his staff is here to serve the students and faculty.
"We want to meet student needs," Wigington said. "Students need to check the Tiger Talk board in each dining location and the stand-up boards around campus for updates on menus and features."
The chosen menu will be featured each Friday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., Wigington said.
Johnson said she was surprised her menu was selected.
"I can't wait to eat my free lunch and have it be something I selected," she said.
