Delvit Rogers, a member of The University of Memphis men's track and field team qualified for the National Collegiate Athletic Associations Indoor championship meet to be held at the University of Arkansas Friday and Saturday.
Rogers is the only competitor to represent The U of M.
His mark of 16.23 meters in the triple jump was good enough to give him the opportunity to compete and it also leaves him with a seventh place ranking.
Rogers also provisionally qualified in the long jump but the mark was too short for him to make the final cut.
This is his first trip to the indoor championships, but he competed in the NCAA outdoor championships and the U.S Olympic Trials last summer.
The Randall complex in Arkansas is the same place where Rogers qualified in the triple jump.
Louisiana State University's Walter Davis is ranked first with a 17.06 meter mark.
Rogers is one of two Conference USA athletes to compete in the triple jump and one of eight athletes in the country who automatically qualified by clearing the 16.20 meter mark.
Tulane's Carl White is currently ranked 10th with a best mark of 16.10 meters.
The preliminary round of the triple jump will begin at 4:10 p.m. on Saturday with the finals following immediately afterward.
