4:57 a.m.
An officer saw a white vehicle run a stop sign at the intersection of Echles and Spottswood. The officer stopped the vehicle at the Amoco on Highland.
As the officer encountered the driver of the vehicle, he noted slurred speech and a strong odor of an intoxicant.
The male driver was asked to step out of the vehicle and perform some field sobriety tests. The driver had bloodshot eyes, was unsteady on his feet and performed poorly on the sobriety tests.
According to police reports, the driver told the officer he consumed a six pack of beer and a couple of mixed drinks earlier in the evening. The driver was taken into custody for DUI.
The officers searched the vehicle pursuant to arrest, and found a bag of mushrooms, a bottle of pills labeled as Zanax and other paraphernalia.
The male passenger of the car was also taken into custody. A BAC test of the driver registered a .17.
Neither the driver or the passenger claimed ownership of the items found in the car.
Both people were taken to the Criminal Justice Center, where the driver was charged with reckless driving, DUI, simple possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a prescription drug without prescription and public intoxication.
The passenger was charged with simple possession, public intoxication and possession of a prescription drug without prescription.
Sunday, March 25
5:08 a.m.
An officer observed a black vehicle west bound on Southern Ave. at Goodman with heavy damage to the front of it. The officer followed the vehicle to Patterson and Walker, where the hood fell off the vehicle.
When the officer approached the car, he asked the driver about the damage to her vehicle.
She told him she had hit a pole somewhere South of campus. Officers were unable to locate a scene.
She had a smell of intoxicant on her breath and bloodshot eyes, though her speech and balance appeared to be normal. She told the officer she had been to a party and consumed three or four mixed drinks.
The Memphis Police Department was called to the scene because of the possible hit and run. They advised they had no reports on the car to account for the damage and no accident report was necessary.
A DUI van responded to the scene, and the driver was given a breath test which registered .139 BAC The driver was taken to jail and her car was towed to the city impound lot.
Sunday, March 27
6:44 p.m.
A female student came to the Department of Public Safety office and submitted a self report. The woman said there was a strange message left on her voice mail on Sunday, March 25.
The victim said she did not fear for her safety, but was a little unnerved by the call. She also said the voice was not familiar and that she did not know of anyone who might want to play a prank on her. She asked public safety to contact telecommunications about obtaining a phone log for this specific call. The officer advised the victim they would take her request into consideration.
