The members of SANKOFA (African and African American Studies Student Organization) are optimistic that the inspirational thoughts featured in The Daily Helmsman during Black History Month would help to enlighten students.
In celebration of the month-long holiday, SANKOFA desired to provide positive and inspirational messages for students to live by.
The legend of SANKOFA, adopted from the Akan tradition of Ghana, teaches us we should celebrate African heritage each day by remembering our past and by creating a better future for all the generations to come.
We strive to call attention to Black history everyday, not just in February.
