I hope students don't come away from your March 9 article on graduate school ("Graduate school hopes keep many busy in spring") with the idea the only graduate programs are business and law.
The U of M, classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a Doctoral/Research--Extensive university, offers masters programs in 45 disciplines, doctoral programs in 18. Many of these programs are still admitting students for fall.
Check out the Graduate Catalog or visit us online (www.people.memphis.edu/~gradsch) to read about the many graduate opportunities.
Students interested in improving their employability will find many degrees besides Business and Law that will directly and dramatically increase their marketability. So please explore the many exciting opportunities we offer.
Deadlines and level of competitiveness vary by program, so talk directly with program coordinators to see if you quality; contrary to what the Helmsman article reported, the U of M Law school is NOT "the most competitive of all graduate programs."
Many departments offer new graduate students assistantships which include tuition and a stipend. Graduate school is more than a good place to spend a recession! It's a place to enhance your future.
