The Lady Tiger track and field team is looking a to have a successful outing at the Conference USA championships which are being held this weekend at the University of Houston.
In the five years that Memphis has been a part of Conference-USA, they have yet to break the 50-point mark and this could be the year that they do.
The Lady Tigers sprint core will be led by freshman Keenan Gibson who is ranked fourth in the 60-meter dash and second in the 200-meter dash.
Zaneta Ivy is hoping to make an impact she is the only senior on the team.
There are eight other freshmen on the team and head coach Brenda Cash hopes they will be up for the challenge.
Shameika Johnson is currently ranked 11th in the 400 meters and she and Gibson will compete against the top seeded 60-meter runner in the conference - South Florida's Kerine Black.
Johnson and Gibson will compete in the fastest heat of the 60-meter trials with Black and hope to fair well.
Another freshman that hopes to come up big is Lisa-Marie Hyman, who will be competing in her first C-USA championship.
She is ranked seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 11.45 (37-6).
Junior Kameilah is looking to win the conference championship in the 20 pound weight throw.
Last weekend in her hometown ot Carbondale Ill., she broke the school record with a throw of 57-1 which ranks her third going to the meet.
Wendy Ragle, another junior, is also on pace to set a school record.
Ragle will be running in the fast heat at the championships and will face some tough competiton but is well positioned to go for it all in the mile.
Junior Barbara Wine is raked third in the shot put going into the meet with sophomore Monique Nelson not far behind in fifth.
