Women's Basketball

The University of Memphis Lady Tigers defeated the Tulane Greenwave, 76-61 at The Fogleman Arena last Friday.

Memphis improved to 13-11 overall and 6-7 in Conference USA play with the win over Tulane.

The game was very physical with 55 fouls committed. Five players fouled out and Malissa Bush was taken to the emergency room seeking medical attention because of an elbow to the right eye.

Memphis had not defeated the Greenwave since the 1997-98 season and the 15 point victory was their biggest C-USA win since they knocked off Depaul by 18 points.

Tiffany Adkins led the Lady Tigers with 16 points off a five-of-twelve shooting effort from the field.

She also went six of ten from the free throw line, and totaled seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

Senior Patrice Boyd and junior Malissa Bush followed Adkins in scoring with 14 points each.

Tiffany Collins also scored in double digits with 10 points.

Boyd led the squad in rebounding with 11 totaling her second career double-double.

The Lady Tigers next home game will be Feb. 23rd when they host Houston at 7 p.m. in "The Jungle."

Patrice Boyd was also named C-USA co-player of the week and is also a candidate for the sixth man of the year award.

Men's Basketball

The University of Memphis Men's basketball team suffered a tough loss when they were beaten by the UNC Charlotte 49ers 76-83 on Saturday.

Earl Barron and Marcus Moody led the team in scoring wit 17 points each.

Shyrone Chatman finished with 14 and Kelly wise finished with nine leading the team in rebounds with 10.

Baseball

The Tigers swept the Lipscomb Bison in the double header they played on Sunday at Nat Buring Stadium.

In the first game, freshman right fielder Josh Payne came through with the winning game single in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Lipscomb University.

Payne was nearly perfect going 2 for 3 with a home run and a single in his first game as a Tiger.

Daniel Uggula was equally successful with a 2-3 mark as well with two doubles and a run scored.

Senior pitcher Jason Wiedmeyer was on target in his debut going seven full innings and only allowing three hits a walk and one earned run for his first victory of the season.

In the second game Memphis continued to roll and scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to win the second game 4-3 sweeping the double header.

Men's Track

Delvit Rogers was named Conference USA athlete of the week.

Rogers provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor championships in the Long Jump and automatically qualified for the Triple Jump.

He is currently ranked sixth in the U.S. in the long jump.
