Last Sunday night, The University of Memphis dominated South Florida with a score of 79-61 in front of a hometown crowd of over 13,000 fans.
The event placed Memphis in the number one spot in Conference USA standings.
Before the game began, the Tigers honored four seniors: Shannon Forman, Shamel Jones, Marcus Moody and Shyrone Chatman.
Head coach, John Calipari spoke to the crowd about his senior players and in turn, provided a bit of foreshadowing for the night's outcome.
"It's been truly an honor to work with these men," Calipari said. "They set the tone on how it's going to be to play Memphis basketball."
Set the tone was exactly what the Tiger team did when they jumped out to a quick lead 15-1 lead.
Much of the reason for the early lead was because of the hot-hand of Forman and Chatman hitting treys.
Both invdividually made 75 percent of their three point attempts for the game.
The Bulls did not score until six minutes into the half.
Turnovers were a big part of the first half for both teams, mainly because of the intense defensive play.
"We turned it over way too much in the first half, but so did they." Calipari said.
The U of M ended the first half with a 41-24 lead.
They turned the ball over 13 times, while South Florida turned it over 15 times.
In the second half, the Bulls applied full-court pressure on defense to try and create more Tiger turnovers.
The attempt assisted in bringing the Bulls within seven points of the Tigers which is the closest they would get to a come back.
Forman was the game leader in scoring with 19 points, which was a career-high. He also recorded four assists.
Chatman closed out the game with 14 points and seven assists.
Junior Kelly Wise, also known as Mr. Double-Double, scored 11 points and pulled down 11 boards.
Moody, the hometown favorite on the Tiger team, was pleased with way the game played out.
"We really came out and played well," Moody said. "I think everybody played as a team."
The win brings the Tigers one step closer to an NCAA tournament bid.
From the outlook of Forman, the Tiger team is a force to be reckoned with.
"We feel that when we play to the best of our abilities, it's hard for a team to stop us," Forman said.
The Tigers will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., for a C-USA match-up with Southern Mississippi on Wednesday night.
