Just like fine wine, Shyrone Chatman seems to improve with maturity.

Recently named Conference USA player of the week, Chatman averaged an impressive 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in the Tigers' past two wins.

The hard work of Chatman and the Tiger team have led to sole possession of first place in the Conference.

Chatman shot 66.7 percent from the field against Unversity of South Florida, making his average from the field an outstanding 53.3 percent for the week.

During the 1999-00 season, Chatman gave a career-high 31 minutes against Houston, scoring 10 points, making two steals, two assists and blocking one shot.

Chatman had a career high of six assists against Tulane and scored his season high of 12 points against Grambling State.

Chatman began the 1999-99 season by rejecting three shots UNC-Wilmington, then later scored his season high of five rebounds against the Ole Miss Rebels.

He also delivered a powerful 13-footer in the second half against Marquette, securing an 81-79 victory.

Chatman's freshman year was highlighted by a personal best five three-pointers against UNC-Charlotte.

His season best 27 minutes against Cincinnati gave the Tigers seven points and two steals.

Chatman's athletic strengths and leadership skills were developed early.

He was his high school basketball team's captain during his junior and senior years.

Even in the early years, Chatman would often score up to 30 points per game earning most valuable player in the district awards on numerous occasions.

Chatman also was a member of the Amateur Athletic Union's Louisiana Breeze.

The Breeze were two time consecutive national finalists thanks to the skills of Chatman.

His high school coach Willie Titus is noted to have said that Chatman is the hardest working player he has ever coached.
