Senior Christopher Ingram may know a thing or two about the 400m event.
His preparation for doing great things here at The University of Memphis began at East High School.
As a Mustang at East, he placed third in the 1997 regional championship in the 400m event. He also ran on the 4x100m relay team that took 3rd in the 1996 TSSAA state championship.
The nickname given to Ingram by friends reflects his demeanor.
"Everybody calls me 'Tigger' because of my attitude (being myself)," Ingram said.
As a freshman, Ingram opened the season taking fifth place in the 400m.
His season best was 48.51 at the Alabama relays.
During the 1998-1999 season, Ingram took first in both the indoor and outdoor seasons at the Saluki Invitational.
His best 400 during that season was 48.14 at the Big Cat Classic.
Ingram's playful personality and character doesn't seem to get in the way of his work ethic. After all, he tries to pattern himslf after someone who has a winning attitiude and the gold medals to show for it.
Track icon Micheal Johnson has been a role model for Ingram not only in his athletic achievements, but his winning attitude as well.
"Micheal...just takes everything in stride...he is just...himself," Ingram said.
Ingram also has someone else in his life that he looks up to.
He said that his big sister Desiree has shown him how to be persistent, and that she is where he draws his determination from.
Ingram would like to win the conference and become NCAA championship in the 400m and mile relay.
He wants his fellow teammates to win in the conference collectively and not settle for a second place.
Let's hope the legacy 'Tigger' leaves behind is that winning attitude both on the field and off.
