Wednesday, Jan. 31

10:30 p.m.

According to police reports, officers saw two vehicles parked beside each other blocking Zach Curlin Drive south of DeSoto Avenue. As the officers approached the two cars, one of the cars, a Chevy Impala, drove north at a high rate of speed.

Officers attempted to catch up with the car on Central Avenue. The car turned south on Goodlett Road and turned off its lights. The car was stopped by officers. When the driver was ordered out, he became verbally resistant.

The driver was being patted down when he tried to turn around. The driver was restrained with handcuffs by the police officers.

According to the report, the two passengers said they did not know why the driver was acting this way. They also tried to get him to stop several times, according to the record.

After the driver calmed down, he was let out of the handcuffs. The driver had no explanation for his behavior and did not seem to be under the influence of intoxicants. He was issued a misdemeanor cite for reckless driving and disorderly conduct and released.

Friday, Feb. 2

11:20 a.m.

An officer responded to a disturbance call at Police Services Headquarters. When the officer arrived, a young man who works at The University of Memphis as a tower watch had to be restrained with handcuffs.

According to reports, the man, who came to Police Services demanding to leave to attend Juvenile Hall, smelled of intoxicants.

When he was arrested, a partially consumed bottle of liquor was found in his coat pocket. The liquor was discarded. He then became aggressive and started to use profanity with the office secretary when she did not understand exactly what he desired. A pair of binoculars, a tower access key and a hand held radio the man had checked out were missing.

The man was charged with disorderly conduct, public intoxication and resisting arrest. He was arrested and taken into custody by the Memphis Police Department.

Saturday, Feb. 3

5:10 p.m.

An officer was sent to Smith Hall in response to an assault report. When the officer arrived, he spoke with a woman about her boyfriend.

The woman said she and her boyfriend gotten in an argument earlier in the day.

As the woman and her boyfriend were driving to Smith Hall, he began throwing her belongings out of the car.

According to the report, the woman's boyfriend also tried to push her out of the car. When the woman tried to pick up her belongings, her boyfriend tried to hit her with the car.

Sunday, Feb. 4

10:56 p.m.

An officer received a call concerning a suspicious noise coming from the third floor of Clement Hall.

The officer went to the west end of the third floor, where the vending machines are located.

After checking vending machines, the officer heard noises coming from the fourth floor.

When the officer arrived at the north end of the fourth floor, he saw a man with his right hand inside a vending machine. The man had already cut his hand trying to pull the cash box out of the machine.

The officer noted small pieces of plastic on the floor and wires pulled out of the machine.

The man ran south down the hall and down the stairwell. After identifying himself, the officer yelled for the man to stop. The officer then called for backup on his radio.

The officer also radioed a description of the man to the dispatcher. The man ran through Mitchell Hall, and was stopped on the north side by three other officers.

The officers tested the man's keys to see if they fit the doors to Clement Hall. The keys did not fit any of the doors, but were held for evidence.

A trespass warning was issued to the man. The man was taken to 201 Poplar by the Memphis Police Department.
