3:03 p.m.
A female student reported that her purse had been stolen, while studying at the McWherter library. The student reported that she had taken a 30-minute break from the study session and found that her purse was missing when she returned home. The purse was located inside of her bookbag, which was left unattended during the study break. Estimated loss of property is $60.
Friday, Jan. 26
7:36 p.m.
Officers responded to a call in which the smell of marijuana was coming from a dorm room at Richardson Towers. After several attempts at summoning the residents of the room failed, officers entered by key. Officers found two subjects sitting on the bed of the room. Both denied hearing the knocking at the door. Officers noted that the odor of marijuana was strong inside the room. The resident consented to a search of the room. Upon completion of the search, the officers had found two plastic bags with marijuana residue, as well as stems and seeds of the marijuana plant. Also found was a small pack of rolling papers and cigar tobacco in the trash. Both residents denied the use of drugs. The rolling papers and marijuana remnants were taken into evidence.
Saturday, Jan. 27
12:25 a.m.
While clearing a separate call, officers observed two men become embroiled in a physical altercation in the middle of Brister Avenue. Once in custody, the officers detected a strong presence of alcohol on both men. One man, who had exited his vehicle shortly before the altercation ensued, failed a field sobriety test. Both men were transported to the jail at 201 Poplar.
Saturday, Jan. 27
4:10 a.m.
On routine patrol, officers observed a vehicle traveling around a local apartment complex with its headlights turned off. Upon investigation by the officers, the vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed. In pursuit, the officers were able to pull over the vehicle at Highland and Spottswood. Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on the suspect and found what was determined to be 4.4 grams of marijuana within the vehicle. The man was transported to 201 Poplar.
Sunday, Jan. 28
3:01 a.m.
On routine patrol, officers observed five males running down Brister Avenue naked. Police were able to place two into custody. The men said that they were members of a fraternity organization and were "streaking" on a dare. Officers transported the two subjects back to a fraternity house and no criminal charges were filed.
