Men's track races toward C-USA indoor championship

The University of Memphis men's track team is prepared to make a run at the Conference USA indoor championships, being held this weekend at the University of Houston.

The host squad, Houston Cougars, are the defending indoor champions, and they are looking for their fifth consecutive indoor title.

The Tigers are enjoying success going into the competition, as senior Larry Crawford was named C-USA Men's Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 200-meter dash and finishing second in the 60-meter dash at Southern Illinois University last weekend.

The award was the second in as many weeks for the Tigers, as junior Delvit Rogers won the league honor last weekend.

Crawford is one of five Memphis sprinters out of 17 in the 60-meter dash this year.

He is joined by freshman Ivan Williams, junior Frank Diadhou, sophomore Michael Woods and freshman Darron Brown.

All five sprinters are ranked in the league's top 11.

Senior Chris Ingram is currently ranked second in the league in the 400-meter dash, and junior Kris Harmon is ranked fourth in the 400.

Sophomore Andre Lucas is the league's top ranked 800-meter runner with a time of 1:54.75.

Senior Stefan Matshiner is ranked number one in the 3000 and is also ranked third in the conference in the mile. Memphis sophomores Ryan Smith and Balazs Laszlo are also competing in the mile and 3000.

Delvit Rogers is automatically qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the triple jump, and is provisionally-qualified in the long jump.

Rogers is the top ranked long jumper in the competition, and he is ranked second in the long jump.

Junior Courtland Perry is ranked fifth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump.

Freshman Adam Martin is ranked fourth in the shot put and the weight throw.

Freshman Greg Doughty is ranked fifth in the shot and Joe Gerda is ranked sixth in the shot.
