I believe Ms. Woods knows exactly what she is making fun of (editorial cartoon, Feb. 13).
Emily Fletcher, 17 years old at the time (of the wreck), only gets two years in prison for killing a man -- an honorable man at that -- while she was driving drunk.
Oh, c'mon now.
You honestly cannot tell me you actually feel sorry for this girl? Not only did she make a poor decision, but she made this poor decision TWICE!
Her second offense for drunk driving, and she gets only two years. And I should mention again she KILLED A RESPECTED HUMAN BEING by driving drunk!
Two years in prison does not ruin a person's life.
Had it been anyone else besides a rich girl at Briarcrest (High School) and a daddy with a lot of money, more than just a petty two years would have been given for killing a man while underage drinking and driving!
On, and the comment, "Alcoholism is a disease, and many people our age suffer from it," (letter to the editor, Feb. 15), makes it sound like alcoholism is something that just gets inflicted upon us in some unknown way.
Emily Fletcher had the choice not to drink and drive the first time and the second.
Being such a "personal friend" of hers, maybe you should have actually stopped her from drinking and driving.
And don't be so naive as to think that everyone drives after they have been drinking. In fact, don't be so naive as to think that everyone drinks either!
Emily Fletcher deserves every "holier-than-thou" cartoon and letter.
Hey ... maybe that cartoon would look good on a t-shirt also.
