Bill Challen had all the women flocking to him late Tuesday afternoon.
Challen's good fortune was part of a Valentine's Day party for residents of the Parkview Nursing Home Tuesday, an event organized by Sally Weathersby, director of marketing for the nursing home, and activities director Mary Travis.
"I'm excited about a tennis match at 6:30," Challen said. "I may dance once -- I don't want to be worn out."
Residents got a chance to dance with one another and members of the University's Phi Mu sorority and Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, who helped put the party together.
"You are never too old to love," said Will Richards, a junior business music major and member of Pi Kappa Alpha.
As they entered a large ballroom, decorated with red and pink heart-shaped balloons, they were greeted by music from a live ensemble.
Resident Mary Dodd Pendergrast said she waited in anticipation outside the door for about an hour while the room was decorated.
"I am ready," Pendergrast said. "I love that music."
U of M students said they were happy to help with the party.
"We wanted to do something to show we care and to give back to the community," junior marketing major David Zelinski said.
"The residents really love it," Travis said. "It makes the residents feel real special."
The residents talked and laughed as they sat watching friends dance.
"I think it's great," said Al Stracilo, another resident of Parkview. "I enjoy watching them dance, and dancing myself."
