Birthdate: May 9, 1979

Hometown: Memphis, Tenn.

Major: Exercise Science

Quote: "You don't develop courage by being happy in your relationships every day. You develop it by surviving difficult times and challenging adversity."

Zaneta Ivy, a senior on the Univeristy of Memphis track team, is in a position of leadership this semester.

Being the only true senior on the women's tea, she has been forced to lead by example.

Ivy said she would like to provide the team with the support and leadership that only experience could provide.

For her fellow teammates, she would like to develop a legacy of team spirit not only for her current team, but for future Lady Tiger track team members as well.

Ivy's chief goal this season is to break the standing school record in the 400 meter hurdle event.

She came very close to shattering that current record this past season and is sure that she will make history for the University this Spring.

Zaneta said her role model is her mother, who raised her alone.

"She has shown me how to sacrifice and how to give up something to succeed in something," Ivy said.

Last season, Ivy set a personal record in the 400 meter dash at the Big Cat Classic held in Memphis.

Shea also set a personal record in the 400 meter hurdles at the Ole Miss invitational.

Ivy attended Central High School where she ran the sprints and middle distanc events.

She was a member of the 1997 regional runer-up team in cross country as a senior.

Ivy was also the captain of the track team her senior year.

Ivy is determined to make this a better season not only for herself, but for her team as well.

She said that if she was a super hero, she would want to be Storm of the X-Men because of her power and strength which is just what she will need to help her team succeed this season.

The women's team sprints into action Saturday Jan. 26 when they travel to the Unviersity of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
