Wow! That's the first word that comes to mind when you hear the accomplishments of Megan Francella, freshman women's golf team member.
Francella is the only freshman on the team and has already made a major impact in the women's golf program.
In her first semester at the University of Memphis, Francella led her team to fourth place at the Beacon Woods tournament held in Tampa, Florida with a finishing score of 226.
This tied her for sixth in the overall tournament.
In Southern Pines, North Carolina, Francella again was the leading scorer for her team.
She opened the tournament with the individual leading score overall and finished with 225 at the close of the tournament, placing her at 15th overall.
Francella's high school career was adorned with many accolades.
She was New York state Junior Champion in 1998 and 1999, Westchester W.G.A. Junior Champion in 1999 and Women's Metropolitan Golf Association Champion 1999.
These accomplishments only scratched the surface of what Francella achieved while in high school.
Her high school coach, chose her to play number one for her team, and it is remembering her coach's instruction, she said, that keeps her motivated to win.
"My parents have made a lot of sacrifices for me to travel with my golfing, so they are role models for me ," Francella said.
Francella would like to see not only the women's golf team win Conference USA tournament, but she would like to be number one in the nation personally.
At the close of her senior year, Francella would like to go on to the Ladies Professional Golf Association.
Francella is an example of the fine caliber of students our university attracts from far and wide and no doubt she will achieve all her goals.
