On the Journey 1/24

I want this column to include from time to time, the one thing that gives me inspiration to live well, and that is my walk, my friendship, and well my very existence -- Jesus Christ. Now, don't worry, I am not some Pat Robertson/Jerry Falwell, send-me-$100-million-or-I-may-die type Christian.

Also, I am not going to charge into your bedroom or bar and shove a Bible down your throat.

WHY? Well, in the past, I've seen some of you in the bars and ... well, that is enough for me to not think about what you may be doing (or attempting) in your bedrooms.

I also must tell you that I fervently believe this journey ends with each of us standing before God. Two books will be opened. First, the Book of Record, which records all, both good and bad, in our time here on earth. And then a second book, the Book of Life. Anyone who is not found written in The Book of Life, will be pitched in the eternal lake of fire -- hell.

This past week, a few of my friends made a decision that affected all of our lives. The decision was based on, in my opinion, shallow reasoning. It regarded personality differences some of us had.

While I do not agree with the decision, I do support the right to make that decision. However, I remember what the Holy Bible says: "Man looks at the outward appearance, but Christ looks at the heart."

Also, I saw this past week that the Episcopal/Anglican Student Center, Baptist Student Union, Presbyterian, Methodist and other campus ministries will assemble to serve food to the poor.

It's an admirable service. My point is to remember John 3:16: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have life eternal."

The first book opened at judgement will tell before God all the good and bad that you did. But folks, that is not the determining factor. The determining factor is accepting Christ as Savior.

You can deny the existence of Hell, but it exists. You can rebel about what God tells you, but look at the Bible in the simplest of terms: as a game play book. The outcome, also, has already been decided.

God, through free will, lets you make the decision of what to believe, but you also have to accept the consequences. So don't gripe when you reap what you sow.

Look, I am not trying to slam your head into the ground about Judeo-Christian theology. What I am trying to express is that Christ has gotten me through a lot. I see so many of you wander through life without a clue.

Folks, WAKE UP. Earth is a weigh station, not the final destination -- and eternity ends ... never. It's eternity.

I laugh with all of you. I live amongst all of you. You, my friends, everyone I meet at U of M is what makes life special, and well look, heaven won't be heaven without you.

It's your choice.
