Letter to the Editor: How much is education stressed among U of M players?

The semester has once again began in full swing.

For most of us, it means sitting through lectures trying to write down and remember what the professor has to teach. For others, it's a different story.

It's not hard to tell who the athletes are in our classrooms. They make their presence known by eitherbeing late to class or being extremely loud while in class (some athletes). In my opinion, a lot of the student-athletes are not concerned with getting a college degree.

It does not surprise me to see an athlete sleep through the entire lecture, and when they do awake from their 55-minute hibernation, they have the nerve to ask a fellow student, "Can I look at your notes?" THIS IS RIDICULOUS!

I am not trying to down U of M athletes, because there are some who are actually trying to succeed academically.

It just makes me wonder about how much education is stressed among the coaches to the players.

I truly believe that a college degree will benefit the athlete in the long run, because the chances of making it to the pros is very slim.

I think that a college degree will take you much further in life than playing for the Memphis Houndogs (an ABA team) because that's where a lot of these basketball players might be headed. Get your college degree!
