After a spectacular win against University of Alabama at Birmingham, the Lady Tigers suffer two crucial Conference-USA losses at home in "The Jungle."
The Lady Tigers started the weekend with a matchup against the Tulane Green Wave.
Tiffany Adkins led the team with 20 points, but that was not enough to give the Lady Tigers what they wanted -- a win.
The Lady Tigers fell 67-58 to the Green Wave, and as a team the Lady Tigers only shot 38 percent from the floor compared to Tulane who shot 46 percent.
In the first half there were 31 turnovers combined from both units.
Both teams took advantage of the turnovers with Tulane scoring 12 points and Memphis scoring 15.
Adkins had 13 of her 20 points in the first half but was forced to work for every one of them.
After trailing for the first five minutes of the game, Memphis finally pulled themselves together and took the lead in the first half.
At the half Memphis led 33-30.
The second half featured a poor shooting performance from the Lady Tigers.
The team went 0-10 from three point range.
Tulane fared consistently going 13-for-26 including 1-2 from behind the arc.
The Green wave seized control with 12:36 left to go in regulation.
The Lady Tigers pulled it together and staged a comeback, which tied the game with three minutes left in regulation.
That was as close as the Lady Tigers would get.
The Greenwave went on a 9-0 run to seal the victory.
The Lady Tigers did not fare much better against the Southern Miss Eagles last Sunday.
They dropped their second straight C-USA game 65-62.
Memphis was down by 11 with 10:52 left to play but they proceeded to break after a 13-2 run to pull even with Southern Miss 56-56 with under four seconds remaining in regulation.
From there both teams could manage only one bucket each, forcing overtime with the score tied 58.
Memphis led for the entire period of overtime until Jessica Woods scored a quick two points for Southern Miss with 16 seconds left and gave the Golden Eagles the lead.
The Lady Tigers had two last second chances but both fell short as Memphis conceded.
the Lady Tigers ultimately fall to 2-4 in conference play.
Southern Miss' biggest lead was 16 which occurred during the first three minutes of the second half.
In the first half they forced 11 turnovers which resulted in 18 points.
"This was a tough game for this team to lose," said Memphis head coach Joye-Lee McNelis. "This team has had every opportunity to step up and win these games, we have yet to overcome our mental lapses."
The Lady Tigers return to action of Jan 26th when they travel to Houston for the first of four road games.
