U of M Department of Theatre and Dance to present 'All My Sons' in the Big Red Theatre

The U of M Department of Theatre and Dance is presenting yet another award-winning play premiering tonight at 8 p.m. in the Big Red Theatre.

According to the department's press release, All My Sons portrays the story of an American family facing the consequences of harboring a terrible secret.

During World War II, the family's patriarch, Joe Keller, owner of a small factory, knowingly caused 21 pilots to die and allowed his partner to take the blame.

The plot revolves around the family's suffering of Joe's tragic deception.

Arthur Miller has said the play displays "the full loathsomeness of an anti-social action."

Sophomore Jesse Klenk portrays the son of Joe Keller's partner, George Deever in the production. Klenk said the play deals with hidden emotions and dealing with death.

"The father has hid things from his family and placed blame on someone else," he said.

J. Noble, a third-year directing graduate student, is directing the play that originally opened on Broadway at the Coronet Theatre.

"All My Sons is a well-constructed drama that deals with issues that are pertinent today: responsibility to the community, family values and business ethics," Noble said.

According to Noble, the play's theme reminds viewers that good and evil rarely exist in the world--society usually lives in shades of gray.

The play runs Nov. 9-11 and 14-18, with all shows at 8 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $7 for students and senior citizens.

All U of M students receive one free ticket with a valid student ID. Tickets can be purchased at the box office in the Theater and Communications Building lobby Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 1-4 p.m.
