There won't be much on the line Saturday when the University of Memphis football Tigers travel to the Superdome in New Orleans to play their season finale against the Tulane Green Wave.
Well, that is to say, not much for Memphis (4-6, 2-4 in Conference USA), which last week assured itself of its sixth straight losing season after dropping a 13-10 overtime gut-wrencher to Cincinnati.
Tulane (5-5, 2-4), on the other, hand is hoping extend a three-game winning streak, which, if accomplished, would make the Green Wave bowl eligible. If it does so, Tulane would become the sixth team in C-USA this season to become bowl eligible.
The Green Wave enter Saturday's match-up on a roll offensively.
Last week against Navy, Green Wave quarterback Patrick Ramsey set a school record with five touchdown passes en route to a 50-38 win. For the season, Ramsey has thrown for over 2,400 yards and 21 TDs. Freshman running back Mewelde Moore added 99 yards on the ground in the Tulane win last. Moore's 786 yards for the season has already set a freshman record.
Both will be staring at a Memphis defense that remains ranked second in the nation after holding the Bearcats to just 190 total yards last week.
The Tigers have held opponents to an average of just 255 total yards per game.
Offensively, Memphis showed some life last week against Cincinnati.
Running back Sugar Sanders rushed for a season-high 122 yards while quarterback Scott Scherer completed 20-of-32 passes for 203 yards. The game marked the first time this season Memphis had lost after rushing for more than 100 yards in a game.
"We've got one game left," head coach Rip Scherer said. "We'll keep fighting."
