Tiger Sports Roundup: Women's Volleyball 11/7

The University of Memphis volleyball team (11-18, 2-12) grabbed its third consecutive win with a 3-0 sweep of UAB, Friday.

UAB tied Memphis at 10 a piece in the first game after Memphis lost a 10-3 lead before calling a timeout. Memphis regrouped and won game one 15-10 thanks to service aces from Emily Eichmann and Amie Hamilton.

Memphis dominated game two, hitting .167 while the Tiger blocking game forced UAB to hit .024 in a Memphis win.

UAB came out after the break between games two and three and went up 4-0 on Memphis. The Tigers rallied back after freshman Heather Saunders subbed into the game and downed two kills and scrambled to dig up balls on defense. Sanders finished with three kills and three digs, most of which came in game three, 15-6 Memphis win.

Junior Adrianne Edmonds, who has started the last five Memphis games, led the Tigers with 12 kills. Senior April Harriman added 10 kills in the win, while Hamilton led the defense with 13 digs. Freshman Laura Stoke, who is seeing more time in the lineup after deciding to delay knee surgery until the end of the season, finished with seven kills and four blocks, including one solo.

Memphis remains home for the remainder of its regular season. The Tigers host crosstown rival Christian Brothers, tonight, at 7 p.m. at Echles Field.

The match will also be team night. Any teams that attend the game will be admitted for free.

Memphis is now one game behind Southern Miss in the National Division standings. The Golden Eagles and the Tigers will face off, Friday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. The last three meetings between the two teams have gone to five games, with USM defeating Memphis 3-2 in Hattiesburg earlier this season.
