After having to 10 finishes in their last three events, The University of Memphis Lady Tiger golf team fired a team score of 292 and was in second place at the Pine Needles Invitational in Southern Pines, North Carolina, after the first round. The University of Alabama was in first place with a score of 291, just one stroke ahead of Memphis.
Meaghan Francella, Memphis's much heralded freshman sensation, had the individual lead with a two under par score of 70.
Alabama's Sarah Johnson and South Florida's Fany Schaeffer were tied for second at 71. Memphis Lady Tiger Sandra Hellsvik tied for fourth at even par 72m while sophomore Abby More tied for 13th at 74.
Kentucky, South Florida and Louisville round out the top five after the opening round of action.
