For the first time in over 10 years, the Memphis Lady Tiger basketball team has opened the season with a 4-0 record after defeating Texas A&M, 75-68, in the championship game of the Lady Tiger Classic.
Senior all-America candidate Tiffany Adkins was named tournament MVP after leading the Lady Tigers with 24 points against the Aggies.
Sophomore Shannon Hamp was the only other Lady Tiger to score in double figures against the Aggies with 11 points.
In addition to MVP honors, Adkins was named as the Conference USA Player of the yesterday.
Adkins led the Lady Tigers to three major victories this past week, including an 88-82 win over 15th-ranked Mississippi State in which she scored a career-high 37 points and has led the team in scoring in three of the four games this year.
She currently leads the Lady Tigers in scoring and rebounding, averaging 22.0 points and 7.0 boards a game.
Starting Dec. 1, the Lady Tigers will embark on a nine-day road trip and on the Dec. 15 will face Tennessee Tech at the Fieldhouse.
